Oh, thank you for your sage advice. The promotions on YouTube, MySpace, Faceook, Twitter, Project Wonderful, link exchanges, and banner exchanges was a good start, and even though I'm now flat broke, I should just keep going and somehow spend money I don't have. Then, and only then, might I hope to get...what, five more readers? Six? If I heed your advice, dare I hope for a book release that gets...10 sale on opening day? No, I already tried your plan, and all it did was leave me broke AND depressed. So this year, I'm spending my hard earned money on things I want. After years of spending every dime I have on my books and their promotions to get a limp response every single time, I'm ready to give up on readers. You're all too good for me. I'm agreeing with you on that point, and I'm giving up my hopes of a pro career.

This isn't my career anyway, it's a hobby. It is one of many hobbies I have, but until this year, all of my other hobbies had to take a back seat to promoting my writing. Obsessing over my sales failures made me such a bitter person that I couldn't even enjoy reading other people's books anymore. I just spend all my time asking "Why did this make it, and my stuff flounders every time?" I was taking it out on my husband even though none of this was his fault. My health kept getting worse, and I was having more and more problems staying out of depression.

So, with all due respect to you—because I really don't know you and wouldn't presume to know anything about you—I'm going to just say that your advice only leads to an early grave for me. Now, if you are sticking around to read other blog entries, or possibly book blurbs, I'll say welcome to the asylum. But if you're going to wander off after reading this reply, I'll just thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment. Cause you know, I never said you had to agree with me to leave a comment. You feel I'm wrong for deciding to invest more time and money in my other hobbies. Okay. I respect your opinion, but I'm still going to go with my plan and get back to my other hobbies. (And speaking of which, I really need to get in some more guitar practice this month.)

Wow.

Hey, don't hold back. Tell us how you really feel.

:)

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion, leave your stuff up on Amazon. It doesn't really hurt anything, and people in the future may decide they like it and start buying it a lot more. Or not. Maybe just a few will. Or none. There's no chance if you take it down, though.

Best of luck. Guitar is a lot of fun!

So...you only write to get reviews? And no one reviews, so fuck them?

Hmmmm....

If you're a writer who writes because you like to write, then it shouldn't matter a good goddamn if your material is reviewed.
